Legal and Practical Steps Toward Corporate Compliance with the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act) and Data Act

On January 18, the Rythmisis Institute of Law organized a workshop featuring Dr. Maria-Oraiozili Koutsoupia, a Brussels and Athens-based lawyer specializing in AI medtech & pharmaceuticals, and the organization’s President, Dr. Spyros Sapounas, an Endocrinologist at EODY and Vice President of EOF. Also contributing was Argyro Ioannidou, a Lawyer and Data Protection Officer (DPO). The workshop included a presentation of practical advice and current solutions for companies in the health sector to comply with European legislation regarding the use of artificial intelligence systems and datasets from both medical and legal perspectives. In the separate Forum of the first day, related to AI and Intellectual Property, Terpsithea Papanikolaou, IP Lawyer participated and analysed important IP aspects in using AI in healthcare.

The workshop took place as part of the smartHEALTH Annual Forum 2024, themed “Cutting-edge Technologies for Digital Transformation in Healthcare,” organized by the smartHEALTH European Digital Innovation Hub and the @Europe Direct – Attica PRAXI Network. Collaborating entities included ICS-FORTH, PRAXI Network, INAB – Institute of Applied Biosciences, Information Technologies Institute (ITI), Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), Technical University of Crete, University of Crete, Athena Research Center, University of Western Macedonia, Uni Systems, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, NCSR “DEMOKRITOS,” Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos, and ahedd Digital Innovation Hub.
