On Friday, December 1, the first conference on artificial intelligence regulation titled “AI Regulation and Applications in Greece: Challenge Accepted” took place at the packed “Charis Karatzas” hall of the Law Library. The event was organized by the National Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Personal Data, and Digital Governance (Rythmisis) in collaboration with the Law Library.
The conference was inaugurated by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, the President of the Reform Network in Greece and Europe, former EU Commissioner and Minister, Anna Diamantopoulou, and MEP Stelios Kympouropoulos.
Various aspects of artificial intelligence were explored during the conference, including its relationship with public administration, healthcare, the environment, energy, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, personal data, and more. The discussions highlighted the benefits of using such technologies while addressing the concerns and challenges that accompany them.

Eminent university professors, including Giannis Maniatis (PAPEI), Giorgos Androutsopoulos (NKUA), Christos Kalloniatis (University of the Aegean), and others, as well as distinguished lawyers, IT experts, doctors, data scientists, economists, and entrepreneurial startupers contributed with relevant presentations.
Coordination of the thematic sessions was undertaken by professors Eugenia Prevedourou (AUTH), Fereniki Panagopoulou-Koutnatzi (Panteion University), Antonis Karampatzos (NKUA), Vasilis Tzemos (University of Thessaly), and journalist Antonis Papagiannidis.
A noteworthy dialogue unfolded between the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis, and the President of Rythmisis, Maria-Oraiozili Koutsoupia, discussing the future and prospects of artificial intelligence in Greece.

Finally, former President of the Court of Audit and Acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas, in his concluding remarks, emphasized that Greece approaches artificial intelligence not with fear but as a crucial development tool. He expressed his belief that the Rythmisis Institute can decisively contribute to this effort.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the General Secretary of Justice and Human Rights, Panos Alexandris, and the President of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, Konstantinos Menoudakos, among others.
